Grouchy Smurf is the cranky, grumbling heart of Smurf Village—famous for his iconic catchphrase: “I hate…” (followed by pretty much anything!). With his crossed arms, frowning face, and endlessly annoyed attitude, Grouchy may seem like a storm cloud—but underneath all the complaining lies one of the most loyal and caring Smurfs around.

Grouchy Smurf expresses his disapproval of just about everything with his classic line: “I hate…” This has become one of the most recognizable running jokes in Smurf history.
